The Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation (SMCF) is a registered non-profit organization that provides opportunities for disadvantaged children (6-14 years) to enjoy the experience that only summer camps can offer. The Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation serves a 55,000 square km area and receives referrals to the Send-A-Kid-To- Camp Program from 36 plus social agencies. These children are referred to the program because they may come from one or two parent families in financial need that do not enough money to provide them the opportunity to attend summer camp. They may have been in families where violence is an everyday occurrence or where sexual, physical or mental abuse has occurred. Regardless of the reason for the referral, the common thread for all of the children is that they wouldn’t be able to afford this opportunity without the Send-A-Kid-To-Camp Program. The average cost to send a child to camp is approximately $296.00 per child.

The Bursary Program is open to either former crown wards or present crown wards wishing to attend a post secondary institution in hopes to further their education. The support of the “Bursary Program” is designed to help alleviate a range of financial obstacles facing these youth who have no families or support to rely upon. By providing this assistance, we hope to encourage them to continue their education path and break the generational pattern of abuse, unemployment and dependency that plagued the growth of these youth.
